525 Artist/Designer of the Week
Oregon born artist Stephanie Clark, who is now based in Salt Lake City, creates intricate and detailed peices using string and thread. Originally a painter, Clark wanted to use different techniques and the process of transforming string into art struck her as something visually stimulating with complex simplicity.
"The embroidery floss is my palette and the needle is my paintbrush. I create a method of embroidering the threads in an arrangement that would initially create value, color, depth and as I lay the colors down they instantly blend themselves."
Her work has incredible depth and the colours which she deploys really make the work leap off the canvas, and blurs the lines between fine art and craft.
